Prisons fail horribly at providing life skills, pre-release and reentry services to confined men and women scheduled to be released primarily because that's not and has never been their business model. Three of the most critical issues in determining whether a returning citizen can successfully transition back into society, and maintain a productive life are: (1) mental health services, (2) education/training, and (3) a solid support network. Employment did not make our list. Leading research as recent at 2019 has confirmed that employment-focused reentry programs have had little success in reducing recidivism. GRAAFICS reentry services has been proven to prevent recidivism by building reentry support training around those things that have historically driven recidivism: mental health services, behavior modification and anger management. Our success in this space has proven to us that it takes more that 'a good paying job' to curtail recidivism.
